…an utterly moving statement: a heavenly undulation akin to the nature of the tides, and a growing tidal wave brewing into a full-blown tsunami
Randy Nordschow NewMusicBox review of Daan Vandewalle’s recording of Inner Cities
Immerse yourself in sound: this fantastic performance is a tour de force. Come for just one portion, or stay for the full four and a half hours. Alvin Curran’s notes to the piece reference the sound of Thelonius Monk detuning time; of Steve Lacy playing his soprano sax with his left leg; of accidentally stepping on Dietrich Fischer Dieskau’s foot backstage. Pianist Daan Vandewalle (Ghent, Belgium) made the canonical recording of this rarely-heard masterpiece.
It’s a rare chance to catch this modern masterpiece live. Don’t miss it!
