Board Call

Music on Main is seeking new volunteer members for its Board of Directors. These representatives will be champions for our mission, be engaged by our programming, and wish to contribute to the growth of the organization into the future.

Music that brings us together.  That’s Music on Main’s goal. We present top-flight classical, new and genre-bending music in environments that are intimate and social. Since 2006, the organization has developed internationally lauded programming, featuring more than 1,800 musicians, over 740 events, 130+ world premieres, and over 1.75 million on-line views.

Independent and vibrant, Music on Main strives for game-changing production values, rock-solid administration and financial management, enhanced audience-artist interactions, and industry-leading marketing, fundraising, and digital programs. Our work culture thrives on co-operation, respect, and kindness while nurturing individual and group development.

The Board of Directors is looking for individuals to bring diverse perspectives, support our governance and committee work, and potentially assume leadership roles within the Board.

We are interested in candidates with the following:

  • Ability to contribute knowledge, lived and learned experiences in areas including data management, marketing, Circle Process and other Indigenous Protocols, fundraising, Information Technology, accounting, law, HR, and/or the arts;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Strong communication and networking skills;
  • Connection to the arts or not-for-profit communities is a plus;
  • Previous board experience is valued, but not required.

Time commitment:

Music on Main’s Board currently meets five times a year and at Pacific Standard Time. These meetings are set based on the availability of the group. Committee meetings are held separately, and generally in preparation for a Board meeting.  The average time commitment per month is approximately 3-6 hours.

Meetings are conducted in person, with the option available to join digitally on Zoom or by phone, as necessary. Documents for the meetings are sent out at a minimum of 4 days prior, and can be printed upon request. The meetings are held in a meeting room at The Post at 750, an accessible space in downtown Vancouver with gender neutral washrooms and the capacity to accommodate children, as needed.

Commitment to equity:

Music on Main prioritizes diversity, inclusion, and equity in all its forms. We encourage submissions from members of groups that are historically, persistently, and systemically underrepresented including: Indigenous, Black and people of colour; people identifying as LGBTQ2AI+ and/or non-binary; people living with visible and invisible disabilities; and members of other equity seeking groups.

If a barrier exists for you to approach this process, please reach out to us and we will work to make it accessible for you.

Music on Main Society operates on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
